Apple’s iPhone was an instant hit in the world of modern gadgets. It is an amazing little device that has played a big role in our communication revolution, not all of which is for our good I might add. But I’ll save that debate for later.

The iPhone is much more than a phone; it’s a little computer. Computers use applications to accomplish certain tasks. The world of “apps” is virtually exploding enabling the owners of these little machines do amazing things. Besides all the games, texting, web browsing, picture taking, emailing, etc., did you know you can now get forgiveness via your iPhone?

Here is some information copied from the Apple website:

“Designed to be used in the confessional, this app is the perfect aid for every penitent. With a personalized examination of conscience for each user, password protected profiles, and a step-by-step guide to the sacrament, this app invites Catholics to prayerfully prepare for and participate in the Rite of Penance. Individuals who have been away from the sacrament for some time will find Confession: A Roman Catholic App to be a useful and inviting tool.” And check out some of these features:
    • Custom examination of Conscience based upon age, sex, and vocation (single, married, priest, or religious)
    • Multiple user support with password protected accounts
    • Ability to add sins not listed in standard examination of conscience
    • Confession walkthrough including time of last confession in days, weeks, months, and years
    • Choose from 7 different acts of contrition
    • Custom interface for iPad
    • Full retina display support
What a deal for ONLY $1.99/mo.

There seems to be no end to the madness in the world of religion. The only “app” we need to guide us through an effective examination of conscience is the Bible. And you don’t need to know a secret password to gain access to the throne of His grace—you need to be saved.

Where in the Bible about can we read of acts of contrition, Rite of Penance, or Sacraments? These, just like the iPhone and “apps” are the products of man’s mind, NOT God’s. Apparently a lot of people are getting $1.99 worth of comfort from seeing “forgiven” on their I-Phone screen. I can assure you that is NOT a reply from God and His forgiveness is not for sale.

Real forgiveness is available to everyone, but its on His terms not man’s. What's the price? Deny self and follow Him (Mt. 16:24-25).
