You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father's desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and has nothing to do with the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies. John 8:44 Jesus’ scathing rebuke of some Jews who had “believed” on Him point us to a fact ignored by many in our day i.e. Satan is still using lies to turn people away from the Lord and His Word. Ever since Eden men and women have been faced with the decision of deciding who and what to believe: God or the Satan; the truth or a lie. To us, the choice is obvious—always believe God and reject Satan’s offers. But the devil is very clever and often disguises his lies, making them very attractive. Satan likes to wrap a lie in the appealing “package” of authoritative words. For example, the opinions of a person with Phd. after his/her name carries a lot of weight with many people. It is erroneously assumed that experts, especially scientists, are always right. It’s easy forget that peoples’ bias can, and often does, taint their opinions. The realm of human wisdom is populated with people who are ready and willing to promote any-thing they think will discredit the Bible, especially any event that is of an apparent supernatural character. The creation account, the flood of Noah’s day, the destruction of Sodom, and certainly the miracles connected to Jesus are all discounted as tales or myths. Recently, in a program on the Science Channel about Sodom and Gomorrah the host said, “the Bible never talks about why God supposedly destroyed those two cities”. Are those words the truth or a lie? Genesis 13:13; 18:20 speak of their exceeding sin and wickedness. In Dt. 29:23 we learn that those cities were the object of Divine wrath and anger. Jude 7 says, “And don't forget the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah and their neighboring towns, which were filled with sexual immorality and every kind of sexual perversion. Those cities were destroyed by fire and are a warning of the eternal fire that will punish all who are evil.” I wonder if the Science Channel people think they can change the truth about God’s attitude toward homosexuality by denying His Word? No matter how many times the devil’s lies are told, he cannot change the abiding word of God (1 Pt. 1:25). by Ken Dart email him at hbchurch1@verizon.net |
