Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; who put darkness for light and light for darkness; who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter! Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight.

Isaiah 5:20-21

Hardly a news cycle goes by without a story about someone who has done what the Lord said not to do in this passage from Isaiah. We live in a world that despises the negative. The modern moralist is horrified by the very suggestion that an action or thought might be looked upon as evil or even just a little bit bad. In many quarters it is unthinkable to ever tell a child that something is either good or bad, lest the innocent little ones become warped by some sense of right and wrong.

The recent firing of Arkansas’ head football coach serves as a startling reminder of Satan’s grip on the minds of many who are now shaping the hearts of the next generation. In Bobby Patrino’s public apology, the coach defined his adulterous association with a female co-worker half his age as “an inappropriate relationship”. Would you say that is somewhat of an oversimplification of his sinful affair?

But after hearing a school teacher call in to the Dennis Prager radio show, I see what is going on. She (the teacher) told about how she had been taught NEVER to use terms like good or bad in a student’s presence. Dennis asked her what she was supposed to say. She said, “...words like appropriate or inappropriate were much better”.

Our society’s penchant for the most benign, inoffensive terminology is nothing short of a spineless submission to satanic brainwashing aimed at trying to sanitize sin. If children can be programmed to never think good or bad, then their choices will not be tainted by a sense of right or wrong. That being the case, then who needs to listen to what God has said about evil, sin, and its consequences? Some would argue that words like: fornication, adultery, covetousness, wickedness... must be stricken from the Bible to protect our little ones from “the dark side of out-dated, archaic religious superstition”. Better yet, discard the Bible and let modern thinkers who are in touch with reality guide us.

I yearn for at least one sliver of the good ole days when almost everyone acknowledged the difference between “good and evil; light and darkness”, and we were not overrun with a mob of self-appointed moralists “wise in their own eyes”. Satan’s stratagem is appealing to many, but WOE to those who choose to imbibe.  KD
